Steve Hobbs of Crawfordville caught this 73.6 lb and 52 inch cobia off St. Marks on May 5, 2010. Here is how Steve tells the story: My fishing partners were Andy and Chris Meinhardt. We headed out in my ZX 22 Skeeter Bay boat looking for grouper and cobia. We caught and released several short gag grouper and were moving to another area when we ran up on this monster cruising the surface in 23 feet of water. She ate threadfin live bait and the fight was on. I was using a Shimano Torium reel on a Star rod with 50 lbCajun Red line 80 lb Ande mono leader and a Mustad red circle hook. We fought her for about 25 minutes. After 2 gaffs and a team effort she was in the boat. We went to St. Marks Seafood where it weighed in at 73.6 lbs.and was 52" to the fork of the tail.
